Freedom, Family, and Forward Motion

We hope you had a meaningful and fun-filled 4th of July! This year, Heber City marked a milestone with its first-ever Independence Day parade, while Midway continued its cherished traditions with fireworks and festivities. It was inspiring to see our community come together to celebrate freedom, family, and shared values. As Democrats, we’re proud of the promise of America—a nation built on liberty, justice, and the ongoing pursuit of a more perfect union. But there’s still work to do: protecting rights, preserving our lands, supporting working families, and expanding civic participation here in Wasatch County.

This newsletter highlights local, state, and federal issues that reflect our values—what’s happening now, what’s ahead, and where your voice matters. Have a tip or topic we should cover? Email us at wasatchdems@gmail.com.

Read on to learn how to get involved, join our new Civics Committee, and support meaningful causes in our community.

Let’s stay informed, connected, and ready to act—together.

Good Trouble Day & Back-to-School Action

With federal cuts to Medicaid and SNAP on the horizon, now is the time to come together and care for our community—just as civil rights icon John Lewis taught us to do.

Lewis dedicated his life to justice, voting rights, and nonviolent protest. He famously called on Americans to get into “good trouble”—the kind of necessary disruption that moves us toward a more just society.

Each year on Good Trouble Day, people across the country honor his legacy through protest, service, and civic action. This month, you can do both—right here in Salt Lake and Wasatch Counties.

Two ways to take part:

Speak up: Join the statewide Good Trouble Rally at the Utah State Capitol to stand up for voting rights, healthcare access, and economic justice.

Show up locally: Visit the Wasatch Dems on Thursday, July 17 at Heber Market Days, where we’re collecting donations and raising awareness for the Back 2 School Basics program. We’ll be at the picnic pavilion at the southwest corner of the park—stop by, bring a friend, and get into some good trouble for a great cause.

Check out our blog post to learn more about the program and sign-up to volunteer. Because every backpack filled is a vote for equity, dignity, and opportunity.

STATE & FEDERAL UPDATE: What’s at Stake

Federal cuts to after-school programs and safety nets are putting Utah families at risk—while tax breaks for the wealthy grow. But community pressure just saved our public lands from being sold off.

Read our latest blog post on how national policies are hitting home—and how we can respond together.
