Wasatch County Democrats elected new party leadership at their convention on Saturday, May 22nd at Southfield Park. Despite a windy day, attendees were grateful to meet in person to enjoy the sunshine and elect Jennifer Lee as the new Chair and Meaghan Miller as the new Vice-Chair. Both bring years of experience as candidates, volunteers, and community leaders to serve Wasatch County Democrats. They are excited to work with local Democrats to give Wasatch County voters a choice on their ballots and to increase participation in civic activities.
In addition to leadership elections, attendees heard from candidates for state party leadership. Rep. Elizabeth Weight (D-HD31) gave an update on the recent controversial special session of the Utah Legislature. Representatives of community organizations and issue caucuses encouraged Democrats to get involved and advocate for the values that are important to our community. Participants were reminded that municipal elections are this year and that the candidate filing period for most municipal races is June 1st to June 7th. Heber City is using Ranked Choice Voting which eliminates a Primary Election so that filing period is August 10th to August 17th.
Lee and Miller are already busy planning summer service projects, parades, and activities. For more information about how you can get involved, visit www.wasatchdems.org or send an email to wasatch@utdems.org.
